Season Info

2021/22

Club Contact Information

If you are no longer the main contact for your club could you please send along the new contact information so my mailing list can be updated.

Dates of Play

We will begin games the last weekend in October for U10, U12 and U14. Two weeks later the U16 and U18 games will begin. A full dates of play can be found not our website by clicking here.

Team Fees

As mentioned last year as well at this past seasons AGM, our fees for facilities has seen a significant increase due to HRCE increasing their prices. The registration fee for this season will be $1695/team. All U10, U12 and U14 fees are due on October 22nd. All fees for U16 and U18 are due on November 5th.

Team Numbers

We will need a full list of your anticipated team numbers at each division. We need this information no later than October 8th (I understand these may fluctuate, that is ok). This is in order to firm up our gym bookings.

Team Lists

We will need a list of teams from each club. I have attached a spreadsheet to be filled out and send back to me. We will need age group, starting division, one head coach full name and their contact information (e-mail and phone).

Insurance

All clubs will be required to submit proof of insurance no later than October 15th. For clubs who register with Basketball Nova Scotia I simply need confirmation that you are registered and in good standing with them.

U18 Age Cut-off Change

This year the age cut-off for U18 division changes from October 1 to January 1st. To be eligible to play in Under 18, a player must not have reached the age of 18 prior to January 1st of the current season.

Rule Changes

The following rule changes were voted on and passed at the AGM this past June:

Motion: That section 15.4 be added to the MBA Rules of play and state “A teams roster must not include more then 15 players. In extenuating circumstances where a club would like to place more then 15 players on a roster they must seek approval from the League Manager.”

Motion: That section 15.5 be added to the MBA Rules of play and state “A team may register as many coaches/team staff as they wish, however, no more than four (4) may be on the bench for a game.”

Motion: That the current sections 13.4 and 13.5 be renumbered 13.6 and 13.7 respectively.

The rules of play document has been updated on our website.

COVID-19 Restrictions

At this time I am unsure what if any COVID-19 restrictions will be in place for the upcoming season. I do not expect to have any up date until September 15th or whenever the Province reaches a 75% fully vaccinated rate. Many clubs have asked specifically about spectators being allowed in to watch games. I am hopeful to receive an update on this on or around the September 15th date.

To be eligible to play in Under 16, a player must not have reached the age of 16 prior to January 1st of the current season.

Rule Changes
The following was voted on and passed at the AGM:

There was some confusion around appeals. The following changes was made to the constitution:

Motion: That Section 3.3 of the MBA Constitution & By-Laws be changed to read, 3.3 Any player, coach, manager, team or club suspended by the MBA shall have the right to appeal any suspension above and beyond the standard suspensions set out in section 18.9 of the “Metro Basketball Association Rules of Play” document to the Appeals Committee. The suspension must continue to be served until such time as the appeal is heard, the appeal shall be heard by the MBA within a timely fashion

Motion: That Section 3.3.1 be added to the MBA Constitution & By-Laws and shall read, Appeals may not be made on game officials judgement.
Clarification was added to rule 11.6 and 12.9 which dealt with a team retreating back following a score in U10 and U12.

Motion: That Section 11.6 and 12.9 of the MBA Rules of Play be changed to read, No Full Court Defence - After a made basket, or dead ball in the front court, the team now going on defense must retreat back to the 3 point line area in their own back court until the opposing team crosses half court. In the case where there is no 3 point line, the top of the key area should be used. After a defensive team violation, the offensive team will be permitted to inbound the ball in their own backcourt, regardless of the spot of the violation.

Motion: That Section 11.6.1 and 12.9.1 be added to the MBA Rules of Play and read, Should the defending team violate the rule and the official stops the game, the ensuing throw-in will take place at the top of the three point line (or key if not three point line) in the offensive teams back court.

All of the above mention motions passed at the AGM.
