2018/19

Dates of Play
These have been updated on the website. November 11th falls on a Sunday this year, U14 Boys will play their regular weekly game that week on Saturday, November 10th. U16/18 divisions will begin their season November 18th

Team Fees
There will be no change in team fees for this coming season. Fees will remain at $1495 per team.

Rule Changes
The following was voted on and passed at the AGM:

Rule Change Summary

1. To add clarity to U10 and U12 shift rules around the maximum number of shifts any one player can play.
2. Add clarity RE: shifts when a player arrives late or leaves a game early.
3. Create rules for who is permitted to play in over time.
4. Change the backcourt count and shot clock times to align with FIBA rules at the U16 and U18 divisions.
5. Add clarity to when a suspension begins
6. To allow suspended players to remain seated on the bench while serving their suspension.

The committee is recommending the following motions be voted on at the AGM:

Motion: That Section 11.1 of the MBA Rules of Play be changed to read, Equal Play - In all levels of Under 12 no one player shall play more than a one shift difference than any other team mate and no player shall be permitted to play more then five (5) shifts in a game (excluding overtime). If 8 or more players have not been used in accordance with “Equal Playing Time” by games end, the scorer shall record clearly on the score sheet that the game is a default against the violating team.

Motion: That Section 12.3 of the MBA Rules of Play be changed to read, Equal Play - In all levels of Under 10 Developmental no one player shall play more than a one shift difference than any other team mate and no player shall be permitted to play more then seven (7) shifts in a game. If 6 or more players have not been used in accordance with “Equal Playing Time” by games end in disregard of this rule, the scorekeeper shall record the game as a default.

Motion: That Section 11.1.1 be added to the MBA Rules of play and shall read, Should a player arrive to a game late or leave a game early they are required to play equal time for the portion of the game which they are at the game.

E.G. A player arriving at half time of a game is not required to play the entire second half, they must play 2 of the 4 shifts. The same would apply for a player leaving the game early.

Motion: That Section 12.3.1 be added to the MBA Rules of Play and shall read, Should a player arrive to a game late or leave a game early they are required to play equal time for the portion of the game which they are at the game.

Motion: That Section 11.12 be added to the MBA Rules of Play and shall read, Should over time be required during a play-off game, any player who has not fouled out during the game shall be permitted to play in the over time shift(s).

Motion: That Section 5.7 be added to the MBA Rules of Play and should read, Should over time be required during a U12 play-off game four (4) minute shifts shall be played until a winner is determined. Rule 11.1 shall not apply to over time shifts.

Motion: That Section 5.8 be added to the MBA Rules of Play and should read, Should over time be required during a U14, U16 or U18 play-off five (5) minute periods shall be played until a winner is determined.

Motion: That Section 6 Shot Clock be changed to read, 6.1 The shot clock in U10, U12 and U14 games be of a 30 second duration A defensive non-shooting foul in the front court shall be a 14 second reset.
6.2 The shot clock in U16 and U18 games be of a 24 second duration. A defensive non-shooting foul in the front court shall be a 14 second reset.

Motion: That Section 7 Back Court Possession be changed to read, 7.1 A U10, U12 or U14 team will be permitted to have possession of the ball in their back court for 10 seconds prior to crossing midcourt.
7.2 A U16 or U18 team will be permitted to have possession of the ball in their back court for 8 seconds prior to crossing the midcourt.

Motion: That Section 18.9.12 of the MBA Rules of Play be changed to read, Game Ejection – A player or coach or fan who is ejected from a game shall be suspended for 1 game. The one game suspension will begin immediately following the end of the game in which the ejection took place.

Motion: That Section 18.11 be added to the MBA Rules of play and read, Unless otherwise mentioned by a league official, any player serving a suspension shall be permitted the remain on the bench for the duration of the suspension. Should that player create problems during a game in which they are suspended for they will be suspended for an additional three (3) games.

Motion: That Section 18.10 of the MBA Rules of play be changed to read, Any spectator, coach or non-player person serving a suspension issued by the MBA and/or Basketball Nova Scotia shall not be permitted within a gym or building in which any MBA game is being played until such time as their suspension has been served in full. Failure to abide by this rule will result in a further two game suspension.

2017/18

Dates of Play
These have been updated on the website, there are a couple changes this season. During the second lst weekend of play the U10 group will not play both Saturday and Sunday, they will play on the Saturday only. They will play their last game the following Saturday. BNS has moved their Jamboree for this age group back a week as well.

Rule Changes
The following was voted on and passed at the AGM:
12.14     No Screening – Screening of any kind is NOT permitted (including ball screens, area screens, and dribble weaves/handoffs). If there is a screen set, legal or not, and there is contact it will be called a foul. If there is a screen set, legal or not, and there is no contact it will be a turnover.

Division Coordinators
We are looking for division coordinators for next season. If there is someone within your organization who may be interested in assisting with this roll please have the contact the League Manager (lerettcp@mbans.ca). Division Coordinators play a vital role in operating the league. They have three main focus areas:
1)    Division Alignment
2)    Acting as a liaison between the teams and the league
3)    Scheduling games

2015/16

Insurance

All teams must show proof of insurance prior to October 15, 2015

Team League Fees

League Fees for the 2014/15 season will be $1475 per team.

U10 Development Divisions

The number of shifts have been reduced to 10 shifts. Each shift will be 3:30 in length (stop time)


U14, U12, U10 Development Divisions

The penatly for zone defence has changed and will be as follows:

  • 1st Offence, warning
  • 2nd and any subsequence offence, one shot and posession of the ball at the point of inturuption.

 


2014/15

Insurance

All teams must show proof of insurance prior to October 15, 2014

Team League Fees

League Fees for the 2014/15 season will be $1455 per team.

All Divisions


Divisions will be renamed to the following:

  • U10 Developmental - formerly Jr. Mini
  • U12/Mini* - Mini
  • U14/Bantam* - Bantam
  • U16/Midget* - Midget
  • U18/Juvenile* - Juvenile

*Because this is a transition year we will leave the old names in the division name. For the 2015/16 season these will be removed.

 

U10 Developmental Divisions

  • Play will be 4 on 4.
    • Games will be 12 shifts of 3 minutes (stop time).
    • 2 minute half time.
    • No game shall be longer than 1 hour and 10 minutes in length.
  • There will be no score kept in the U10 Developmental Division

U14/Bantam;U16/Midget; U18/Juvenile Divisions

  • U14/Bantam Boys division will now use a size 7 ball (29.5")
  • In U14/Bantam, U16/Midget and U18/Juvenile Divisions a team will be able to call up enough players to bring their total roster for the game to eight (8).
  • The U16/Midget Girls division and U18/Juvenile Girls divisions will be combined.
  • U12/Mini games shall not exceed a maximum duration of 1 hour and 10 minutes.
  • U14/Bantam games shall not exceed a maximum duration of 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  • U16/18 games shall not exceed a maximum duration of 1 hour and 25 minutes

 


2013/14
 

Mini Divisions

Hoop will be played at 10' (Foul Line will remain at 12' distance)

Bantam Division 3 and lower

Introducing "Equal Play" for first 3 quarters (broken into 6 shifts). No one player shall play more than a 1 shift difference than any other team mate.

The time will remain at 8 minutes per quarter; however they will be broken up into 2 x 4 minutes for the first 3 quarters to allow for equal play.

The 4th quarter the above will not be applicable and coaches will have the descretion to play whom they choose for the final 8 minutes.

All Divisions

Individual player scoring stats will not be posted on the MBA web site beginning this season

Illegal defense violations will be stringently upheld this season as follows: 

  • 1st violation is a verbal warning to the coach,
  • 2nd violation will be a technical foul
  • 3rd violation will be 2nd technical foul and coach ejection from the game
